The weather may cooperate but my schedule does not, so I will NOT be able to help if all y’all fly. Good luck and have fun for those who do. John Lincoln

Dennis, I wouldn’t hesitate to do the 5280 cruise. I can’t because I’m not a commercial rated pilot. I fly without a transponder now so that wouldn’t bother me either. Marengo is away from the class B airspace too. I would like a two way radio but we have hand helds for that. Finally it’s approximately 7 miles from Marengo to SSI. That is a 7:1 glide ratio if the tow is to 6170 msl. If we go with towing to 5280 msl the glide ratio is 8.42:1.  Actually even the 2-33 shouldn’t have any trouble with either glide. It would be a lark in the Lark!!! John Lincoln

I don’t have an issue with the mile high club scenic ride for day members. I do wonder a bit about John D’s math though. In this case I think of the mile high club as being a tow to 5280′ agl. An additional 2280′ above a regular scenic day ride tow to 3000 agl which would be 3890 msl. Top of a mile high tow being 6,170 msl. Of course we could save a bunch of tow time by offering the One Kilometer Club scenic ride. That would only add an extra 280.84 feet to the regular day member scenic flight! All kidding aside a cool thought about the mile high tows is if we took the day member to Marengo in the Lark and then of course flew back to SSI. They would get a bit of a taste for cross country as well as seeing some countryside. John Lincoln

Greg and any others. I use thimble and eye splices but I don’t make them myself. I use braided line and the splices are more than I wish to tackle so I buy pre-spliced line. In the boating industry there are many “generally used sizes” of mooring pendants and I easily find one for my use. That said,  I saw Mark Mallamo giving instruction on making eye splices this last summer in dyneema or spectra line. There are instructions on line for most all types of line. Finally the only difference real between “eye splices” and “thimble splices” is that the thimble splice is an eye splice that is made small and tight enough to hold a metal “thimble” in it. The thimble allows the use of steel connectors with a “soft” line. I am not advocating the use of line over straps, just using something made for and strong enough for our intended use. John Lincoln

This may be a bit late, and if you use knots and it’s been successful I’m happy to hear it. That said I sail and keep my boat moored on Lake Geneva. I’m sure some boat owners use knots, but I don’t know of any. I use thimble and eye splices. Knots lower the breaking strength of the line they are in (up to 50%) and can come undone. Splices minimally reduce the strength of a line and if done correctly can’t come undone. We have a lot invested in our sailplanes and our tie down equipment should be sized for length and strength for each sailplane. I’m willing to help with this if help is needed when I’m back in town.

When I joined the club I became the 4th or 5th John. John O told me that most of the guys with our name either go by our last names or “John O, or L or D, etc.” depending on which John you actually are. Maybe we should try to get back to that. It might help out John D!!!

Don, due to a medical procedure I had today I can’t make the board meeting tonight. That said I fully support your resolution. And if I hadn’t had the procedure I would be at the meeting. Please vote me as fully and completely supporting your resolution.

Tuesday was nice, but not strong. Average climb 2 kts. Clouds were good indicators. I flew to Dacy, DeKalb, and Crystal Lake 74 miles. First time I have flown to any of those places. John L
