Ford N tractor Fuel Sediment bowl and Valve
Here is a link to a detailed blog showing the N series tractor fuel sediment bowl, how it works and how to repair it.
Don GrilloKeymasterI cleaned the mower deck and lubed the spindles, checked the gear oil, and made sure the blades were spinning freely. None of that fixed the problem of the engine bogging down under load. Did a little more trouble shooting and found out that if you open the fuel valve 5 turns, the tractor runs fine without bogging down. So, the problem seems to be in the fuel valve. The manual says it should be open 2 turns to use the main tank fuel and all the way open to use the reserve. I’m thinking that the main tank line is clogged. In order to remove the fuel valve for checking and cleaning, the tank will have to be drained of fuel.
Don GrilloKeymasterRemember, Mikes forecast is geared toward cross country flying. The local weather at sky soaring this weekend may be fine for local training flights. See you at the field.
Don GrilloKeymasterThe Ford Tractor started acting up recently where as soon as you put a load on it, like engaging the mower deck and start mowing, the tractor would bogg down and want to die. We have cleaned the fuel bowl and screen, blown out the fuel line and checked the points.
Does anyone have an Adjustable Spark Gap Tester? If so, would you bring it out to the field.
Some things to check first are;
Mower deck. Is the underside clean or clogged with grass? Are the spindles lubed? Do the blades turn freely?Engine;
Spark Plugs and gap. Are they set correctly?
Fuel. With the bolt in the carb bowl removed and the gas on, will the fuel flow fill a pint jar in less than 2 minutes?Governor linkage. Check to see if it is properly set.
I’ll be out there later this morning (Thursday the 20th) to troubleshoot.
Don GrilloKeymasterHi logan,
I will be out however, I will be
working on the Ford tractor.?? Wx is not looking so hot for
soaring tomorrow. Low cigs in the morning hours with some
improvement late Thursday morning and into the afternoon as
drier air migrates into the region according to the NWS. You
should have been there yesterday… 😉 what a day…Don GrilloKeymasterTow plane is down. Forecast wx is:KRFD [Rockford Intl]TAF: KRFD 161143Z 1612/1712 03006KT 3SM BR VCSH OVC005

called Rochelle on the radio and asked if they were having sky
diving operations. They confirmed they were, so we avoided their
airspace well to the east.?? You don’t want to fly gliders under
falling parachutists. That could ruin your whole day.Don
Don GrilloKeymasterDon GrilloKeymasterSkySight is predicting good soaring as well. If we can get enough people I would like to assemble my glider and fly.
Don GrilloKeymasterRich,
Any of the new browsers (Firefox,
IE, Safari) will not work with the old webcam that is currently
installed at Sky Soaring.?? We tried a new webcam system but our
broadband at the club was to slow to handle a HiDef system.?? Now
that we have recently had the broadband increased, we are going
to try a new webcam system.In the meantime you can try the old
Avant Browser. Some members have been able to get it to work.
You can follow these instructions:http://skysoaring.com/ssidownloads/accessing-the-sky-soaring-web-cam/
Hopefully soon we will have a new
webcam installed at Sky Soaring.Don
Don GrilloKeymasterWhy not just turn off the lights or take the radio outside when you need to use the radio? Or am I not understanding what the problem is? 😉
