Dennis BurkeParticipant
I apologize for missing the Day. I intended to apply weed killer to the RW end markers, asap.
Dennis BurkeParticipantHi Don, yes thank you for the information on the existing setup.
I will check out the Configuration manual, and maybe try it out when at Field.
Dennis BurkeParticipantI’m not an SSI instructor, but did have a comment about Landing Ops when a day’s staff level is minimal. Often a glider lands, and has not cleared RW to north edge ( low-energy ldg), and a Golf Cart & staff is not out there to help exit ASAP for other traffic in pattern.I was wondering if 1 golf cart should be kept close to the new roll-stop area before the End markers, …especially for 27 ldgs. If the pilot is alone, is that pilot allowed to move his/her glider off the RW by themselves?Dennis BurkeParticipantnot boring. My coworkers in IT Dept’s were surrounded by these horrors. (back when i was earning my keep).
Dennis BurkeParticipantThanks Don, for reply.I agree with all of your comments; and the short-final, heavy sink scenario is definitely not good to have any aircraft in the way & staging. I don’t have a good solution either. TP can drop line and move off quickly…..but poor glider & WR stuck. I can’t remember how Wind City, at Clow 1C5 where I initially trained, handled that. D.B.
Dennis BurkeParticipantA short comment on the SSF’s Wing Runner course i was renewing. I might get beat up on this, but i think one of the Quiz questions is misleading concerning a runway conflict. I probably got it marked wrong, the last time I took the course. Has to do with T.O. Ops ready to launch, and Wing Runner notices a sailplane on BASE LEG for landing. SSF answer: TP and sailplane to be moved off runway. This choice seems difficult to perform in the short time (~40 sec) remaining in the landing sequence, ….at least tough for the glider that was ready to depart, and minimal field staff alongside the wing runner. Anyway, my 2 cents.
Dennis BurkeParticipantSome short questions. Regarding safety and insurability, did Mr. Costello have any opinion on the quasi-commercial aspect of SSI hostings of Day Memberships, regardless of tow-methods?With 2021 enhanced safety procedure concentration, will day members be able to absorb and follow any of the procedures quickly enough? (movement on field, around & inside hanger & equipment). Please do not interpret this as any critique, it’s just thoughts.Dennis BurkeParticipantArt, on the Informal “keep-sell”, i think the bigger question is the $80000 upcoming club pay-out that may be near the root of this topic.
Dennis BurkeParticipantThat is good news, Larry’s note, on payoff of a big loan! No small accomplishment for ssi! Especially since the engine had to be torn apart and rebuilt in 2017-2018, at a cost $$
Dennis BurkeParticipantI think Tim P. is our one of SSI resident knowledge- person on Condor….that tool , I think, has capabilities for Winch Train scenarios ( see Scott Manley, 2013 article, SSI mag). Manley added Winch into that tool. Maybe that will help refresh all who want to continue winch learning (epecially me, I didn’t finish)Dennis BurkeParticipantMark and Don,Thanks both for the suggestion tips, and web-links , DennyDennis BurkeParticipantOn topic, is the same syllabus to be used, or required, for Season checkout or Flight Review ( aka, BFR) for non-student members?I noticed that Bob Wander series includes a BFR-Checkout book. -
