ParticipantBesides John Phelan whose comments had to do with the financial aspect of the winch, everyone else wrote positively about the winch.
I’d like to take an informal poll….. “Keep it or sell it?”
I vote to keep it.

KeymasterArt – since you volunteered to coordinate a new winch program I vote to keep the winch. I’ll give you administrative assistance in organizing the winch program.Mike Hurd -

ParticipantArt, on the Informal “keep-sell”, i think the bigger question is the $80000 upcoming club pay-out that may be near the root of this topic.

ParticipantIf the winch does zero flights, it costs us each 1 beer. If we do 57 we get to keep the beer. I vote to keep and put me down as a winch weekday coordinator. We could use another volunteer for that position.

ParticipantDennis’s concern of the $80k caused a chuckle. My first term as President Was 20 yrs ago. My excellent VP was Mike Hurd. We were faced with $200k in debt with a bank loan at 7%. We had 35 members. Ouch!We reduced dues. We changed the constitution to reduce entrance into the club by $1000 with unanimous consent of the membership. We doubled the size of the club in one year and earned a end of year profit of $18,000. Mike is one of our unsung heroes.

ParticipantI vote that we keep the winch.
I also would like to nominate myself as a winch driver coordinator to help more people understand how to run her 🙂

ParticipantThe real question here is how we raise the funds we need to service the debt and expenses we face in 2021-22. The winch is just an avenue to obtaining those funds.
There should be a whole separate discussion around how we safely operate the winch if we proceed in that direction.

ParticipantHello:
I support keeping the winch. As stated in an earlier post, we need scheduled times so members can plan on learning about the winch and flying from it. Some of those scheduled times must be on weekends.
Regards,
Rich

InactiveI also vote to keep it… nice that SSI has something unique that most clubs in the US don’t offer.
