Reply To: Sky Soaring Ground School From Steven Snyder, [General Discussion Forum]I have uploaded the Weight and Balance worksheet for the 2-33 as discussed last night. You can find it in the files section. All students need to fill one out and bring it the next time you fly.

John DeRosaParticipantI will need some extra hands on Saturday for the following work.
Today I picked up a 1-26C that has been donated to the club by member Charlie Gries. Nice ship with a radio. It is on its trailer on the north side of the hangar.Pumpkin’s wings are on its trailer in the hangar and will need to be moved on Monday just up the road to Union IL for it’s paint job. What we need to do on Saturday is swap the two trailers. That will require the Pawnee and the PW-5 to be temporarily moved out of the hangar. The earlier we do this the better before the winds really get going. I will be at the field around 8am to start some prep work on the 1-26 trailer prior to the swap around 9am.
See you there.
Best Regards,
John H DeRosaJohn DeRosaParticipantNice flight in a 1-26E (like SSI’s).45km. Just short of the 50km needed for a Silver Badge leg!

I wonder if what the chicken with the yellow hair thinks happens to cruise speed is correct for an airplane (versus a glider). That is, at a certain throttle setting in an AIRPLANE does increasing the wing loading magically also increase the cruise speed?
In a glider increasing the wing loading (and gross weight) with water ballast shifts the performance curve (aka polar) so that the aircraft’s “best” cruise speed (called minimum sink) shifts upward. Meaning you can cruise faster between thermals and that’s important during a contest. But nothing is free as you pay for this gain by needing stronger lift as a lighter ship would need.
So might the airplane get better performance, and thus better fuel economy, with higher wing loading? Heck, I don’t know. But I do know that no Cessna has wing tanks to add water like my glider does!My $0.02.

Reminder of the upcoming Sky Soaring mandatory annual safety meeting this Saturday, March 26th, at 9AM CT. Attendance will be kept and FAA WINGS credit will be given. Have you completed your required wing runner (or tow pilot) course yet? See details below from Don Grillo.A team will arrive early the day of the meeting to warm up the hangar as Saturday may not be spring time warm weather just yet. As we do every year following the meeting we will continue the process of assembling the fleet. Every ship in the fleet is currently in annual though a few are awaiting some more efforts before being ready to fly.Aviation safety is paramount! In-person attendance at the hangar is the very best approach to getting the most impact from our annual safety briefing via interactive Q&A. But if you absolutely cannot attend in person then the link to the Zoom meeting is shown below. Questions can be asked during the Zoom meeting via chat window.SEE YOU THERE!John H DeRosaPresident, Sky Soaring Glider Club========================

John DeRosaParticipantJohn P,
We are moving all the grease guns and cartridges to the storage cabinet on the south wall that has all the aviation oil and grease gun items. The only grease related items that are not in this cabinet that I know of are cans of lubricating grease (aviation and non-aviation) which are stored in the paint cabinet. Should these also be consolidated into the south wall cabinet so that all greasy items are in one place?John H DeRosaOn Thursday, February 24, 2022, 02:37:25 PM CST, SSI <webmaster@skysoaring.com> wrote:
