        Members,

The maintenance workers*, lead by our Chairman John Lincoln, have been working hard this winter to get prepared for the start of our flying season in a few short weeks.  These people* are absolutely critical to our club and I thank them for their efforts.

HOWEVER, we have been spending far too much effort this winter and nearly a THOUSAND DOLLARS needlessly due to the simple lack of greasing bearings.  This impacted one of our important Schweizer 2-33’s not to mention the lowly brush hog mower.  You would be surprised at the cost of aircraft parts!  Another item to grease regularly is the west hangar’s overhead door – imagine what would happen if THAT failed!

So please keep your ears open for noisy wheels and other things that turn!   And keep your eyes open for loose fittings, nuts, bolts, axles, and wheels.  It is critical to quickly report what you hear and what you see before damage is done.

Each winter we will begin a regiment of greasing the bearings on all of our equipment.

        * YOU CAN HELP!!  See you Saturday?

        Thanks,

        John DeRosa

        President (and past maintenance chairman)

Thanks for reminder!     In advance, is there an elusive “punch-list” (items needing work) that was mentioned by J. Lincoln Maint Report at the Feb meeting? Of course all the board members probably know exactly what’s on the top-10,  & still outstanding. The rest of us may not know.

Does the Club have a Grease Gun and cartridges?  Where might they be kept?  General use grease OK or do some things require a special grease – lithium, HD, etc.?  The Ford Tractor has grease nipples all over it that need to be hit with new grease at least annually.  General grade grease works for that beast.

            Best Regards,

            John F. Phelan

Dennis, The “Punch List” that I mentioned in the club meeting last Saturday was in connection to Pumpkin, not in regard to any other work that is needed on the other ships in the fleet or the infrastructure at the field.

              Sincerely, John Lincoln

Denny,John L did talk through the maintenance list during the membership meeting of other work items that are getting done beyond Pumpkin. You did one of them by repairing the battery PowerPole power cable on (I think) Stars and Stripes. Thanks.

Also, much of the information about ongoing work is the meeting notes for the meeting which can be found at https://skysoaring.com/ssi-files-docs/categories/meetingminutes/ (login required).
                Thanks,

                  John P,

We are moving all the grease guns and cartridges to the storage cabinet on the south wall that has all the aviation oil and grease gun items.
The only grease related items that are not in this cabinet that I know of are cans of lubricating grease (aviation and non-aviation) which are stored in the paint cabinet. Should these also be consolidated into the south wall cabinet so that all greasy items are in one place?

I’d suggest all grease/lube be stored in one place so we all know where to find it.

                    Best Regards,
