4:00p.m. – 7:00p.m.Edeltraud Landl joined her parents, three sisters and one brother in Heaven on May 1, 2022, after a four-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was surrounded by her husband of 49 years, Karl. Edeltraud was born on March 4, 1945, at the end of WWII, in Zwodau, in the former Czechoslovakia. Her entire family was forced to flee their homeland in Romania due to the advancing Russian Army. From Czechoslovakia, the family moved to Austria and lived there for several years. They then moved into Germany, near Stuttgart, where they permanently settled. Edeltraud came to Chicago in 1969 as an Au Pair. It was here that she met her husband Karl and they married in Moessingen, Germany in 1973.
After settling in Arlington Heights in 1973, Edeltraud, having previously worked for a newspaper in Germany, found a job as a secretary in the now defunct German newspaper ‘Eintracht.’ In 1975, Karl and Edeltraud purchased a home in Prospect Heights. Her activities were many. She was the Secretary of the German/Austrian/Swiss ‘Alpine Ski Club’ for many years. She was an avid gardener and member of the Prospect Heights Garden Club, where she loved to decorate the annual Christmas tree and help with the annual Spring Plant Sale. She loved to ski with Karl in the Rocky Mountains, especially in Aspen, CO. She loved to play tennis with her friends from the Alpine Ski Club.
In the summer, Edeltraud and Karl loved to visit the many great National Parks. Together, Karl and Edeltraud took three trips to Sydney, Australia via Hawaii, to visit Karl’s sister. Edeltraud and Karl loved music and visited the Grand Ole Opry, Elvis’ Graceland, New Orleans, and the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame. Edeltraud was known for her great German cooking and baking.
