John LincolnParticipant
Rich,
58 minutes and 5000 msl in a 2-33 is quite respectable. I would say you aren’t having any trouble finding where the “real” lift is at. Of course getting from one thermal to the next in a 2-33, …. now that may pose a bigger problem. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantA comment on Sunday. Nick and John Osborn had nice flights. Greg Tomczyk flew too and maybe some others. I don’t know because I was flying. It turned out to be quite nice. From 12:45 till about 4 the lift was 2 to 4 knots. The clouds were ok indicators. After 4 it got quite a bit better lift 4 to 8 knots. The top for me was 6900 which was cloud base. Lots of heavies and many down low. I saw one at 3500 AGL and several at 4000 to 4500 AGL. Kept my eyes peeled. There was one cloud street in particular I remember that went from Huntly H.S. to Lake Geneva. I flew on it without making a single turn at 5300 AGL the whole way (28 miles). I visited Darian, Aero Lake, Lake Geneva and Sycamore among other spots. Total distance flown was 205 miles. I was up for 6:17. Thanks to Nick for running my wing, a good job and to Don Grillo for a good tow as well. And thanks to Greg Tomczyk and the other member whose name I can’t remember for waiting for me to land. That was very nice as well. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantI plan to be out around 11:00. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantLawrence and Dennis, I just read your posts. There is a very easy “test fix” for the noise if it is the canopy beingĀ slightly bent in. That would be to use tape to fashion a fairing that will force the air flow to NOT hit the outside rear corner of the fuselage at the canopy joint. If it works then a more permanent solution can then be made. And if that doesn’t fix the problem then removing the tape should cause no damage. I’ll look into it the next time I’m at the field. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantNick, Great flight, congratulations.
John LincolnParticipantI’ll be out around 11:00. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantAnd a nice day it was. Just to add to Steve’s comments it was a bit difficult to get up over 3500 to 4000 agl. After that the soaring was pretty good. It got the best after around 4:30 pm. My high was 9000 msl over Dacy and I was finding lift up to 500 fpm.
I wish to thank Steve Snyder and Jim Hopkins for staying out until I landed. It’s always nice to have friends help, and help they did. THANK YOU!!!

John LincolnParticipantHi All,
I will bring Catsup, Mustard, Relish, Onions, eating utensils, paper plates and napkins. I’ll also bring a dish to pass. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantI’m planning on being at the field around 11:30. I’m hoping the annual on the 1-34 is done by 12:30 to 1:00. How about I drive you back around 1:30. We might need a couple of members to push the Pawnee back into the hangar. Looks like John Scott and possibly Steve could be at the field to help with that. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantJim, I can give you a ride back to Poplar Grove tomorrow afternoon if you need it. let me know. I was planning to check in with Larry Kase regarding helping with the annual on the 1-34. after that I can give you a lift. John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantI agree with Steve, Thursday looks OK. If the weather holds I would like to try to get my field check done if we can get an operation going. Anyone else interested besides Steve and myself? John Lincoln
John LincolnParticipantDennis, The “Punch List” that I mentioned in the club meeting last Saturday was in connection to Pumpkin, not in regard to any other work that is needed on the other ships in the fleet or the infrastructure at the field.
Sincerely, John Lincoln
