As mentioned, President Biden will be visiting Crystal Lake on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. The FAA has issued a TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) for this visit. For our students, who may not know what a TFR is and how we as pilots must adhere to that restriction here is a brief synopses.

A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is a type of Notices to Airmen (NOTAM). A TFR defines an area restricted to air travel due to a hazardous condition, a special event, or a general warning for the entire FAA airspace. The text of the actual TFR contains the fine points of the restriction.

Here is a map of the TFR for Wednesday. A TFR also has specific times that they are active and is delineated in the text.

    TFR for July 7

Below is the actual text that the FAA has issued for the TFR. Note that their are 6 areas (A-F) and times covered in this TFR.

For your exercise today, see if you can find Sky Soaring on the map and what Areas and Times it effects us?

Would prefer to have at least a 23” monitor. The 20” are to small.

Hi Greg, I will have to agree with Andy, our golf carts are pretty much on their last legs. Andy has done a lot of work to keep them going. I don’t really think it is necessary to install an inverter on one. We do have a generator.

Today, Friday, is looking like a good soaring day although it will be very hot. (hint hint…hydration) The forecast high is calling for 93F, 34C. Cloudbase this afternoon according to the rucsoundings should be around 7000ft. Light winds coming down the lake will mix with warm air inland creating some possibility of convergence.

1-26 update. The new tire and tube are supposed to be delivered today to my house. I’m hoping to run home to pick it up after delivery and return to Sky Soaring and replace the tire and tube this afternoon to have it ready to fly tomorrow. At least that’s the plan…

    Regards,
    Don

John, yesterday, I authorized Gary to take it home and study it for a few days. He’ll have it back soon.  Thanks for having a keen eye and keeping track of club equipment.

I will be available to tow today (Friday).

Fridays soaring forecast is showing: The rucsounding for RFD with a high temp of 93 showing cloud base (if clouds form) at 10500 however, an inversion around 6000 feet will keep you from climbing higher.  Expect some high cirrus clouds that will eventually move east. Winds will be out of the WSW at 12-14 knots and slightly higher at the boundary layer.

According to todays rucsoundings with a high temperature forecast of 83, the cloudbase should be at 9400 feet. Yesterday’s cloudbase was above 7000.  A good day to practice your cross country skills. Winds will be out of the west so we don’t have to worry about airliners flying over the top of Sky Soaring. 😉
