Dennis BurkeParticipant
Very sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. I cannot say that I had the great experiences mentioned, especially of his criticism on field of my towing duties while i was using our older C182. Maybe I took the natural sarcasm in the wrong light, but an air of superiority surfaced.
Dennis BurkeParticipantThe SG38 open cockpit, appealing! Wonder what the Wrights or mr Otto L. would have thought, seeing their glider concept pushed into the future.Dennis BurkeParticipantArt i will not be able to vote in-person at the Nov meeting. Is there going to be a paper ballot, or SSI web-based vote option?
Dennis BurkeParticipantI’d like to come out Sunday. CAP need assistance ?
Dennis BurkeParticipantAndy, if you can accept “ballast ” on your flight today, I can volunteer me as a paying ride-along.
Dennis BurkeParticipantThe attached Skew-T from Andy looks suspicious!……hmm
Dennis BurkeParticipantWishing my “landing gear”…(ie., 2 knee joints), were operating correctly to join the excitement! Too much genetic “corrosion”…, it seems.Dennis BurkeParticipantA good review posted. A concern i’ve had during 5 past Spring Safety Meetings is how we should handle outlandings of any members while in the club gliders. The PW5 seems to be the only one that could be easily disassembled, but its trailer would have to be towed out by a remaining member(s) that have a vehicle with capable wired hitch. The other club gliders seem impossible to take apart in field, and may need many members to do that task.Even so, do all of us know the proper tools to bring out to Site, for each SGS and Krosno, and where Trailers are identified for each (if existing), and how to hook them up?? Maybe I’ve missed something over the years, but I wouldn’t know the exact procedure steps to help one of the members get back to SSI, possibly after sundown. I could make up my own procedure, but that’s not right. The private ship owners have their trailers with stowed tool kits, and know their tear-down procedure, so they need basic manual labor help. I would suggest an SSI landout procedure to be taught/reviewed to the Members as a Safety Topic.Dennis BurkeParticipantThe L23 that has been mentioned above, must have become the club ship involved in an accident on 09-30-2017. That must have broken Paul’s heart to hear-see what happened. I only got to fly the L23 once before that day.
Dennis BurkeParticipantI am sorry Tim, a cannot come to fly, and will miss a probable very good soaring day.
Dennis BurkeParticipantI certainly had trouble finding & keeping lift on Thurs, even tho 4 of us waited for CU formation from 10:30am till 12:30. Thought it was forming enuf at 1:45 pm,… nope. But Petr and JL were much more successful! If that good band was starting at 4k msl (3K agl), I failed to grab right away. At the Same time Petr got 1:40 , so he grabbed it, in the right direction! Wonder which direction JL and PF headed out on. My SW direction into wind fell apart, head 180deg back to the NE helped a little.Dennis BurkeParticipantI’d like to try to be at Field for Thursday ( if a Tow pilot might be available), so I put it on BOP
