All,
The Chicagoland Glider Council (CLGC) hosts off-season meeting each month between November and March and includes an aviation related presentation.
On Monday, November 20th at 7:30PM, the first monthly meeting will be held. Zoom meeting information is shown below.
- Speaker: Davis Chappins
- Topic: Condor Soaring Simulator
Synopsis: Why Condor? An overview on how you can use Condor to fly faster and more efficiently. Multiplayer racing, decision making, and flight review. An introduction to Tuesday and Thursday night US races, how you can join, what you can learn, and why you should fly.
Speaker Bio: Davis has been flying Condor for about 10 years. He flew hang gliders before transitioning to sailplanes, about 8 years ago. Recently he flew in his first contest and was 3rd. Currently flying an ASW-27. Last year he was instrumental in deploying 125 OGN receivers across the US. He proposed, planned, configured, and shipped all of the receivers (currently operational at IL59, 55LL & OC2). This year Davis is turning his attention to Condor in the US.

A long term member some of you may have know has flown west today, Ed Stokes has passed away according to Jim Skog and Pete Rosendale. Ed had moved to Iowa several years ago but kept in touch occasionally. I expect more details will be available soon.

John DeRosaParticipantI see now that the PDF story of Ed’s in 2016 Soaring Magazine was too large to email via our system.
Here is a link to this interesting article. http://derosaweb.net/aviation/documents/Stokes_Soaring_Article_2006.pdf

John DeRosaParticipantReminder of today’s membership meeting. Short meeting. Long flying?
John DeRosaParticipantI am on my way to the field to do some work and will re-tie down the 2-33.
Locking the buckles that we use on our wing tie down straps for the 2-33s are different than the standard straps you find at a hardware store. To test it always give the strap a good tug to make sure it’s locked properly. Ask another member to give you a lesson on how to lock the buckle if you aren’t sure.
Thanks!
