Nick:  This bit of advice is a day late.  Call the field on the day you want to fly and see who is there.

Today we had 13 flights.  Two CFIs also were at the field and available to fly.  It was a cool day that required jackets and hats.  The pace was slow, safe, and professional.  There was very little lift.  The wind was calm for really good tows.  It was a nice day but as stated it was a bit on the chilly side.

    Regards,

    Rich

    Hello:

The forecast for Saturday is:  A 20 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57.

If possible, I would like to take one solo and one dual flight Saturday morning.  I appears that reservations are not being made on BookOurPlane so I can not gauge the interest of potential flying.  I see a CFI and some others wanting to fly.  Can we get a tow pilot?

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Rich

    Hello:

I just booked Stars and Stripes.  Solo or dual, either way I will get some practice in.

    Hello Don:

I am taking advantage of the rainy weather to review the FAA Glider Flying Manual and the FAR/AIM.  I took Monday off so there may be an opportunity for practice flights if we can get a crew together. Fog is likely Sunday and Monday morning.

Sunday: A 10 percent chance of showers before 7 am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 74. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Monday:  Patchy fog before 9 am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Light north northeast wind becoming east northeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

    Happy Saturday.

    Regards,

    Rich

    Hello:

It looks like some wind on Saturday and T-storms Sunday and Monday.  Saturday may be the best day for flying in the near future.

Saturday:  Sunny, with a high near 80. South southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 60. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 7am and 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Breezy, with a southeast wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Labor Day: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then a chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

    Hello Alan:

Thanks for the reply and information.  This Samba XXL is in Nevada.  A few nice planes and this glider have come onto the market.  It would be nice to have winch launch, tow, and self launch all available at one glider port.  I will get some more information from the owner.

    Regards,

    Rich

Perhaps there can be a trophy.  There is still some time in the season so lets see what other categories we can come up with.

    Thanks for a decent day.

Today was a low key day at Sky Soaring.  I was able to get in two flights with CFI Mike Vaughn – my sport pilot airplane to glider pilot add on is moving along nicely.  Thanks to Don and Larry for towing.  Two other flights were made by Fred.  The wind was a bit gusty but it was good training on how to deal with that.  On a side note, Fred holds the record of shortest landing today!

I also accidentally found a hornet’s nest in the shelter on the far end of the field.  They were a bit more aggressive than the hornets that I am used to.  After 2 stings I  retreated away from the shelter.  Later, I was provided with a can of wasp spray and went out for revenge.  Most, if not all of the hornets appeared to succumb to their injuries.  Use caution when out there.

Thanks to Don and Tim for wing running and for everyone else who was out at the field working on something.

Some discussion regarding the glider PTS standards and other flight rules were held.  A bit of ground training for the group that braved the heat and wind.  Sometimes some good learning happens in these adhoc sessions.  In summary, not a bad summer day at Sky Soaring.

    Regards,

    Rich

    Hello Don:

Thanks for the reply.  I have reserved Stars and Stripes for a morning flight.  Mike Vaughn will also be out around Saturday 9 am.  If we can get in some tows for dual and solo it would be great.  A morning start due to low winds is what we are planning on.  Also, thanks for the Aviation Forecast Discussion tip – I like the “ground school” email exchanges some of the members have going on – they are educational and helpful.

    Rich

    Hello:

If we get a tow pilot I can come out for a flight after lunch Friday.  I see Andy has a reservation for Friday for Pumpkin.

    Hello:

Six nice flights today at the field.  Thanks to Erik and John for towing and to Tim and Karl for wing running.  Tim also had 1 one instruction flight.  It was a good day.
