Hello Sky Soaring members and Happy Sunday.  Today’s soaring forecast is looking like this; Low overcast to broken clouds will give way to scattered clouds as the morning sun starts heating the earth. Cloud bases should go to 4500 feet msl by 2 pm. High clouds moving in later may keep things cool and the cloud base lower.  Very light winds today out of the east northeast. Yesterdays rains means the fields will be wet and therefore effecting heating and lift. A good day to practice your weak lift thermalling skills. Aerotowing today will be smooth, great for student learning.

See you at the fielld… Don

I’ll come out as well. I’ll use http://www.bookourplane.com to schedule one of the club gliders. Can we get a tow pilot?

Denny, I have logged in and used it a few times, so it is working. Try using the link “A/C Booking on the Skysoaring.com website. I have noticed that bookourplane.com uses a popup for the login window. That may be the issue. In your web browser, turn off  “Block Popups” for bookourplane.com. See if that fixes the login problem.

Hello Sky Soaring members and Happy Friday. That’s right it’s Friday, and that means it’s a great day to go out and be amongst nature. I’ll be heading out to the field today to enjoy hours and hours on the mower cutting the grass and grooming our landing strip to make it ready for weekend flying. I love the smell of freshly cut grass. If you do too, come on out and join me. If you’re not checked out on the Hustler mower yet, I’ll be glad to give you the short course. See you soon…

We had a nice Sunday of flying. We had tow pilots and instructors on the field and only a few members. 12 fights in total with spring checkouts and local flying. Lift was a bit difficult to find and stay in. One flight made it to over 5000 feet.

You can count on flying every weekend as long as we have good weather. No need to send out messages asking for tow pilots and instructors for weekend flying.

During the week we will have operations when tow pilots and instructors are available on good weather soaring days. Be aware that some of us old guys need a break after flying all weekend.

The 1-26e has been assembled and is available to fly.

Lots of chores to do to get the field ready.  On Saturday we purchased 100 pounds of grass seed that will be spread on the new runway section. The Ford Tractor is having some repair work done and as soon as it is completed we will spread the grass seed and then roll it will our big roller. Flight ops are avoiding the new runway by using the north or south side of the runway. Tow pilots and instructors have been briefed on this operation. We will continue to do this until the new grass seed has taken root.

The grass is growing and needs cutting. If you are checked out on the Hustler mowers we can use you during the week when no flight operations are in progress to mow. Do not mow the new grass on the new runway section.

Work will recommence on the new glider and trailer tie down area near the east hangar. Once we have more sites with anchors we can continue to assemble gliders.

That’s all the news I have for now.

Thanks to John Baker, our FASTeam Representative, members that attend the Spring Safety meeting will be awarded WINGS Knowledge Credits. This credit can be used towards your Flight Review Knowledge Credits. As you know, Sky Soaring instructors only do flight reviews through WINGS. We no longer do the the 1 hour ground and 3 flights.
Be sure to ask your instructor to award you WINGS Flight Activity credits after completing your Spring Checkout flights.

All Sky Soaring members should have a WINGS account. If not, go to http://www.faasafety.gov and create an account.

    Sky Soaring Members,
Just wanted to bring up that our Schweitzer 1-26C will go up for sale to the general public in early April. This is your opportunity to own a classic glider that is in fully restored condition. It has had a number of modifications to it making it a much better glider than when it was originally manufactured by Schweitzer. The glider also comes with a custom trailer making it easy for you to transport and store the glider during the winter months. Don’t miss out on this discounted price that is offered to club members only. The price once it goes to the open market will be several thousand more than the low member price.

Contact Don Grillo for more information on this great opportunity to own this classic.
