While walking by Stars and Strips (2-33a) I noticed the tailwheel was packed with mud and grass. This is a NO-NO. The mud was packed so tightly that the wheel would not turn. It also promotes corrosion. The mud and grass hold moisture and corrode the metal.
Prior to every flight, the tailwheel should be checked for packed mud and cleaned if required. With the wet conditions that we have had this will be required more often. Always clean the tailwheel prior to securing it to the tiedowns as well.
Thank You,
Don
