      Hello:

      In the news:

NASA is warning residents to be on the lookout for a research jet flying over Chicago.  The DC-8 flying science lab will be taking to the skies over major cities like Chicago, New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles this summer as it collects data about emissions in the atmosphere.

We saw it today over 55LL twice.  It flew low.  It did not interfere with our ops but it definitely was an unusual sight.

      Regards,

      Rich

You can track the NASA DC-8 using FlightAware.  Tail # N817NA.  You can see today’s track right over SSI at 2100 ft & 248 kts.

It flys out of Wright-Pat AF Base in OH (KFFO)

Hmm….just under the 250 knot limit for the NAS, by 2 knots. Barely legal.

This activity would be a good test question for present SSI students.
