      Today looks good. Anyone interested in an operation today? Any tow pilots available? I will be out around 10:30.

      FYI, the carb heat on the towplane has been repaired and is signed off in the ac logbook by Larry. It is flyable.

      Day recap: Today started out slow with Lawrence and I mowing the grass around the hanger and gliders. Then we got 3 birds in the air with Lawrence flying the 1-26c ,John Osborn flying his pw5, and myself flying the clubs pw5. John and I flew together for a little before he flew back to the airport after around 2 hours. Finally I pushed on for a total flight time of 4 hours and 51 minutes before landing at 6:37. Overall a great day at the field doing work and flying.

      Nick – Almost a 5 hour flight. That is GREAT. Congrats!

      If you are working on badges the Silver badge has these requirements;

      – Silver Altitude is a 1,000-meter (3,281-foot) altitude gain above an in-flight low point.
      – Silver Duration is a 5-hour flight time after tow release.
      – Silver Distance is a 50-km (31.07-mile) cross country flight.
      This is well within the capability of the PW-5. Silver badge allows you to fly in contests.

      I am unsure that first getting a Bronze badge is needed to work on your Silver badge but I might be wrong.

      What I do know is that if you do a successful fly a “leg” of a Gold (or Diamond) badge, such as a 300km flight, that same flight will get you the Silver (and Gold) distance.
      So I assume you can jump right over the Bronze!

      Nick,Congratulations on a nearly 5-hour flight. It was fun sharing thermals with you. After about 2 hours, my butt was getting a little sore, so it was time to put Z2 on the ground.John O
