This was a important presentation by Eddie T. from Tracon, esp since our Club gliders do it have mode C transponder, as many of the Private ships at SSI do, some privates also with ads-b Out. These 2 allow ATC and GA (having ads-b In) to see the traffic.
<div dir=”auto”>Those club ships doing day-member or Mile high scenic are at a disadvantage of not being noticed or tracked by ATC for clearance / separation to ORD arrivals that are landing eastbound. Anyone attempting XC with a Club single-place would also be unnoticed by ATC.</div>
<div dir=”auto”>Another fact is that 55LL is not yet displayed on ATC radar…..hopefully that will change soon.</div>
<div dir=”auto”>We learned tonite that if a glider has Transponder, of course the pilot can request Flight Following from ATC & use code 1202, showing up on radar and receive advisory.</div>
