Here is a good video that shows two important things about winch launching. 1. The pilot should have his hand on or close to the release so if a wing drops he can immediately release. 2. The winch driver must always be watching the glider and have his hand on the drum brake to immediately stop the rope if he sees the glider start to cartwheel.
